ABOUT THE WINE

Syrah Noir is a distinct clone of Syrah grown in just a handful of rows within our Ulupalakua Vineyards. Smaller, denser clusters create concentrated flavors and pronounced structure, inspiring us to craft this wine as a single expression. By separating Syrah Noir from our broader Syrah fermentations, we’re able to highlight the depth, spice, and richness this unique clone contributes — an intensified interpretation of Syrah’s success on Maui.

ABOUT THE VARIETAL

Syrah has long been celebrated for its versatility and its ability to capture the essence of its growing environment. As MauiWine President Paula Hegele recalls, “The discussions kept returning to Syrah’s ability to thrive in various regions worldwide. Each region was able to bring out distinct qualities of the grape. Because it was so versatile, we would not be burdened trying to make a wine that fit into a typical box.” On Maui, Syrah reflects the island’s volcanic soils and cool Upcountry climate — vibrant yet grounded, expressive yet refined.
